An article has just been published in the journal Soil dynamics and earthquake engineering (Q1 JCR) on the possibility of combining metallic dampers and limited strengthening with FRP/SRP to recondition existing reinforced concrete structures. This article investigates the structural variables involved in this hybrid solution and the desirable range of its values through an energy-based method. The validity of the proposed method and formulation is evaluated by numerical simulations with near-field and far-field earthquakes.
